Books, Podcasts & Websites are Best Business Blog of 2020?

best business blogs of 2020
What are the best business blogs of 2020? It is that time of year when the internet starts to fill up with everyone’s “Best of” reviews of 2020. Of course, we could all fill a book with our “Worst of” this year. But to keep things positive here is the One Accounting guide to the best business blogs of 2020 and some other things that are worth checking out.

1. Podcasts

Podcasts are a great way of getting business insights while you are actually doing something else at the same time, like running, driving, or loading the dishwasher.

Here are three of our favourites.

The High Performance Podcast – Business and Sport

This is our favourite business podcast of the year, hands down.  The presenters are Jake Humphries (former Grand Prix presenter and now on BT Sport) and Prof Damian Hughes. The guests are from the world of sport and business, and each get to tell you what High Performance means to them. There are so many takeaways you can apply to your business and your life.

Two to get you started are Steven Gerrard and Michelle Mone.

Eat Sleep Work Repeat – Happiness and Work Culture

Bruce Daisley interviews psychologists, neuroscientists and work place experts to understand how we can improve our jobs. The series has a focus on science and experts, over gurus and opinions.

Two topical episodes for 2020 are “What’s the value of an Office?” and “Mental Health and Work”.

The Wallet – Finance and Entrepreneurship

Presented by Emilie Bellet, the founder of Vestpod.com – a thriving community that financially empowers women, and author of the Amazon bestseller – You’re Not Broke, You’re Pre-Rich.

Each week, Emilie shares her best tips, inspiring you to take charge of your financial futures, and talking to an array of awesome guests from all walks of life – employees, freelancers, entrepreneurs and money experts.

Check out “How to talk to your kids about Money” and “How to build a mindset for Success”.

2. Books

Picking up a book made of paper seems to be a rarity for a lot of people. Here are three great business books worth reading that were published in 2020. We haven’t provided links but would encourage you to seek a local bookshop if you want to read them (rather than take the obvious route of ordering them from Amazon!)

Anne Boden – Banking On It (How I Disrupted an Industry) (published by Penguin Business)

We see more and more clients opening up accounts with Starling Bank. Starling Bank founder Anne Boden gives her first-hand account of how she built the bank from her spare bedroom in 2014, and ended up winning Best British Bank award in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Sarah Frier – No Filter (published by Simon and Schuster)

In 2010, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger created a photo-sharing app called Instagram. They sold it 2 years later for £1 Billion to Facebook, when they had just 13 employees (not a bad return!). Sarah Frier tells the story of the remarkable rise of Instagram and how it grew to more than 1 billion users.

Matthew Syed – Rebel ideas: The Power of Positive Thinking (published by John Murray)

Former UK table tennis champion Matthew Syed has forged a new career as a business Author and journalist. This book is heavily theory based but has some great insights into the science of team performance.

3. Blogs

What are the best business blogs of 2020? Here are 3 business blogs that have a finance and investment theme. Really good to dip in and out of.

Zude’s Top 4 – The head of Glasgow PR Firm and author David Sawyer writes a great weekly post on the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement.  You can sign up for a weekly email which also has links to some great web articles.

Banker on Fire – Another FIRE blog, written by an Investment Banker who has actually made a lot of money himself.

Duct Tape Marketing – If you know your small business needs marketing, but don’t have the time or resources, look no further. The Duct Tape Marketing blog covers everything from earning referrals to managing time and being more productive.

4. Websites

There is actually only one website that we’d like to pay tribute to this year. Our team have spent endless hours being educated, confused, informed and frustrated by this particular site. It is of course……
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs

Our most bookmarked page is of course the employers guide to the Job Retention Scheme. We could also mention the Coronavirus Business Support available to SME’s. Or, the very handy Tax Agent’s Blog. Hopefully in 2021 we will have less reason to visit our friends at HMRC….

We hope you’ve enjoyed our pick of the top business blogs of 2020. Please let us know your recommendations for any Books, Podcasts or Blogs that we’ve missed.
