Our Payroll Manager Katrin is a sucker for the sea and harbours a hidden talent – that is, until now!
What do you do for One Accounting?
I’m team lead for our small but mighty payroll team and manage my share of payrolls end to end across all payroll frequencies. I also compile and submit P11Ds, PSAs and other payroll relevant but often niche submissions that come our way.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love getting to the bottom of any payroll related challenges, queries and reconciliations, it gives me great job satisfaction – so does providing our clients with an excellent bureau service that comes with a personal touch. Being a remote worker, I also enjoy meeting and speaking with clients when the opportunity arises.
What have you liked most about joining One Accounting?
I’ve joined many years ago… a firm favourite remains the flexibility, a great team and the variety of a busy payroll week.
Got a favourite work app?
Paycircle, our reasonably new payroll software, makes our daily lives in the payroll department a lot slicker, employee and employer portals are more user friendly to access pay slips and reports while automation of more repetitive tasks means we can spend time on the finer detail of payroll.
What did you want to be when you were little?
I wanted to be an inventor, during nursery and early primary I used to make things flogging them to my Dad’s employees.
What’s your favourite food?
That’s got to be German dishes such as Maultaschen or Fleischkäse, simply because I can’t readily get ingredients over here.
And your favourite song?
‘Easter Island’ by Treacherous Orchestra
– it’s a longstanding favourite that hasn’t been knocked off the pedestal just yet.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I’ve recently started challenging myself to a few new pursuits and one of these was to give open water swimming a go, which I am now really enjoying on a regular basis! I have a few favourite spots along the coast which always make for a great few hours out. Fire walking was another of my challenges, while overcoming a dislike of heights will be on this year’s agenda. Being outdoors, often with my dog in tow, is my decompression time, I also enjoy all things creative. However, spending time with my two, now adult, sons is the most precious.
If you won the lottery what’s the first thing you would buy?
I’d buy a house overlooking the sea.
What’s your favourite place in the world?
Not surprising, being on a beach somewhere, preferably the West Coast of Scotland.
Tell us something about you that might surprise people!
During my early years in Germany, I was part of a musical family group with my mum and sisters – thankfully our outfits weren’t made from the governess’s curtains…!!
