What do you do for One Accounting?
I’m a Director and also founded the company back in 2007 along with Neil my co-Director. I work directly with clients and I also help to run the business and shape our strategy. I have a specific responsibility for the Marketing and Team/HR functions.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I like spending time with our clients and using my finance and general business experience to help them to solve problems and push their businesses forwards.
What have you liked most about joining One Accounting?
It’s our fantastic team. I help to hand pick every person that joins us and we have some brilliant team members, past and present.
Anything surprised you since setting up One Accounting?
This year the firm will be 19 years old so I’d say I am surprised and delighted that we are still here and going from strength to strength!
If you were to recommend someone apply to join the team, what would you say?
If you have a positive mindset, see yourself as an “A Team” player, have a range of life and work experiences and want to help our clients get a clear picture of their business finances, then you’ll fit in nicely.
What’s your favourite work app and why?
Quite a simple one. It is the BreatheHR app, which we use as a team for booking holidays and storing job descriptions and contracts. We used to use paper forms so this was a game changer!
What’s your favourite food?
You can’t beat top notch Indian Food – Dishoom in Edinburgh is my favourite restaurant.
What’s your favourite song of all time?
“Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I enjoy long distance running and I’ve run marathons all over Europe, some particular favourites have been Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin. I also love spending time with my 3 children and watching Newcastle United when I can get a ticket!
If you won the lottery what’s the first thing you would buy?
A place on the start line at the 6 World Marathon Majors. Plus first class flights and 5 star hotels when I get there!
What’s your favourite place in the world?
It changes often, but right now it is Cologne (Koln), where my eldest son lives.
What are your qualifications?
I am a qualified Chartered Management Accountant and have an MBA from the University of Reading.
Is there anything about you that might surprise people?
I play guitar in a couple of covers bands and have gigged all over Scotland.
