We’re at an exciting stage of growth, with two key priorities for the next 12–18 months. First, we’re investing in staff training, development and wellbeing to become the employer of choice in specialist cleaning. This includes competitive salaries, clear career pathways, leadership development and a supportive workplace culture.
Second, we’re exploring opportunities to expand beyond Scotland and the North of England while maintaining our high standards of quality and compassion. By strengthening our team and infrastructure first, we can grow sustainably, reach more families and build trusted services in new regions.
There is no typical day in specialist cleaning. My role can shift from managing complex incidents and supporting families in crisis to reviewing compliance, solving operational issues or planning business growth. Because we operate 24/7, I need to stay adaptable and ready to respond at any time. Alongside the business decisions, there is always a strong human element – ensuring families are treated with compassion and our team receives the support they need.
What I value most about being a business owner is the opportunity to build something that genuinely matters. Our work supports families through difficult situations and helps vulnerable people access safe homes. I also value the freedom to run the business according to our principles by investing in our team, maintaining high standards and putting compassion first. Seeing staff grow and knowing our work has a positive impact is incredibly rewarding.
Our greatest achievement is the culture, reputation and team we have built. As the business has grown, we have maintained our commitment to compassion, professionalism and high standards. This has earned the trust of councils, housing associations, insurers, healthcare providers and families. Most importantly, we have created a supportive environment where talented people can carry out difficult, meaningful work while protecting their wellbeing.
After years in cleaning, I saw that families dealing with trauma were often let down by untrained providers, poor documentation and a lack of support. I recognised the need for a specialist company that understood biohazard remediation, regulatory requirements and insurance processes. I founded Perfect Clean Ltd. to provide a professional and compassionate service that puts people, safety and staff wellbeing first. The aim has always been simple: to support people properly during their most difficult moments.
The biggest challenge is growing the business without compromising our values. In our industry, cutting costs can affect safety, compliance and the quality of support clients receive. We therefore continue to invest in training, high standards and staff wellbeing, even when this reduces short-term profitability. The emotional demands of the work are also significant, making mental health support and a compassionate workplace culture essential.
Family is my priority outside of work. I’m a mum with a young son, and that puts everything into perspective. After dealing with difficult situations at work, coming home to my family reminds me what really matters. They’re my anchor, and I’m grateful for that balance.
One Accounting has been an invaluable partner as our business has grown. They understand our industry, regulatory requirements and financial challenges, rather than simply processing the numbers. Their advice has helped us manage tax, identify savings and plan confidently for growth. They have also supported us through difficult periods, acting as a trusted strategic adviser. I would recommend them to any business owner looking for an accountant who genuinely understands their business.
Define your goals clearly and prioritise them carefully. I set three to five measurable goals each year and assess every opportunity against them, saying no to work that does not support our direction. Clear communication helps the team understand how their role contributes, while monthly reviews allow us to adapt when circumstances change. Most importantly, I focus on genuine progress rather than simply staying busy.
The most valuable lesson I have learned is that people are the heart of the business. Once we invested more in salaries, training, career development and mental health support, staff retention, quality, client satisfaction and profitability all improved. The same principle applies to clients and partners: treating people with genuine care builds stronger relationships, trust and long-term success.
