Drumsheugh Toll has some fine architectural features and a sense of history. The building was purpose built for the Victorian artist Martin Hardie RSA in 1891. Prior to the Dean Bridge being built in 1832, Belford Road was the main road into Edinburgh from the west. Our office was on the site of toll house where travellers would have to pay a toll to use the road to gain access into the centre of the city of Edinburgh – hence the name ‘Drumsheugh Toll’.
There is plenty of on street meter parking at £2.00 per hour directly outside the office. Long term parking at £1 for 4 hours can be found in the Dean Gallery car park (opposite the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art) car park which is a 10 minute walk along Belford Road.
By car – Important ! Belford Road can only be accessed from the west side, from Palmerston Place/Douglas Gardens.
From the north – head for the Modern Art Gallery & Dean Gallery, which are on Belford Road. Drive past the Travelodge Hotel and then veer left where you see the church, just before the road swings right up towards Palmerston Place. We are 200 meters on the left hand side in the very last building.
From the south, east and west – head for Palmerston Place. Head straight on down the hill into Douglas Gardens. Turn right at the church into Belford Road. . We are 200 meters on the left hand side in the very last building.
Please note there are bollards at the east side at Queensferry Street preventing you from driving into Belford Road.
By bus – Take the stop nearest Shandwick Place, Princes Street West End. or Queensferry Street. Walk down Queensferry Street, and continue past the junctions with Melville Street and Drumsheugh Gardens. As you approach the Dean Bridge, veer left onto Belford Road. The office is 50 meters on the right hand side.
